I have had the craziest thing happening to me lately and I'm not sure I can articulate this in a way that makes any sense, but I wanted to document it in case it keeps happening and I want to go back and check when I officially went crazy. In high school, I had a love for music that was quite extensive. I could listen to Neil Diamond and Danzig on the same car ride to school, then throw in a little Lee Greenwood on release hour. There was also a period of intense gangster rap listening as I envisioned myself a "thug" stuck in a white shell:) Most unfortunate not only for me, but anyone (besides marc) who may have been a passenger.
Anyways, I don't listen to music like tool or NWA anymore, because its terrible and is beyond redemption, but I do find myself listening to secular music in the car and I think i'm becoming a bit of a christian weird al Yankovic. Here's what I mean. Weird al (who I love by the way) has made his living doing parody's of popular songs. I now find myself almost subconsciensly not changing the lyrics to songs, but listening to them as if they were about my relationship with God. I know it sounds a bit nuts, but here are a few examples that keep happening to me.
I keep bleeding, I keep, Keep bleeding love--Leonna Lewis--- I think of love being a trademark for christians. When someone cuts me open, I want to bleed love all over them.
--my life, would suck, without you---Kelly clarkson--not very reverent, but when I hear the song, I think of my life before Jesus and it speaks to me
Love story by Taylor Swift--"I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress (usually I think white robe instead) its a love story, just say yes. I think of Jesus talking to the father and placing the white robe of righteousness on me.
"I don't want to go to bed, mad at you, and you don't want to go to bed, mad at me---Ne Yo-----Eph. 4:26--don't let the sun go down when you are angry, nice biblical reminder for us all Ne-Yo.
I know there are more, but I can' think of them right now. I challenge you next time a song comes on, try to make a connection with God somehow thru it even if its not a "christian" song.
Reminder disclaimer---As stated, you can't do this with every song, some are past redemption. I'm not advocating a steady diet of terrible music just to try to tie God in somewhere.
Can anyone think of some more?
Here is a scripture that backs up my wierdness,
Titus 1:15----To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him
Just trying to keep it pure:)

I ALWAYS do the same thing so I will join the insanity club. I just switched over to a station today and hear Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares To You" and thought about how God's given us a choice to live life however we want but the fact is that nothing compares to living for Chirst. I'm there with you, man!! ~Kim
JZ~
I've known you were weird since the days of Lee G. and Tool (didn't we go to a concert together? Ugh)
What this means now, however,is not that you are "weird" but that you are so redeemed you are able to turn (almost) anything secular into a having a positive Godly twist. That is the mind of a great creative preacher! And an awesome testimony to how far you have come!
(I do have fond memories of the Cav and some very loud Neil D. and Lee G. on the stereo though...I'm not gonna lie)
Keep keepin' it pure. =)
I've done that too, actually. You're not alone. I do like your reminder disclaimer though.... I'm not sure 50 Cent songs could be qualified as a redeeming. hehehe
ps. I just heard that new Kelly Clarkson song in a cafe the other day, which is rare cuz usually its Israeli music. Anyways, it wouldnt leave my head all day and it made me think....why are all her songs like that? They all have this melody and chorus that sucks you in. just sayin. lol
I've never thought of it this way... thanks for kicking religion in the butt, Pastor Jon! =)
Youre not totally crazy! I totally haave this happen a lot! it happens a lot with movies and books to, the characters converstaions, or a certain statement will strike me as so true! A crazy one is the song "Say You Love Me" from Phantom of the Opera, the two characters go back and forth like us and god. Listen to that one! :D
